Letter to the editor: Are we now OK with white supremacy?
I do not in any way believe that it is right to take someone’s life simply because they hold different views from mine.
I believe our government officials should have a responsibility not only to uphold our Constitution but also to honor only those who support the fundamental principles and values it enshrines.
Flags were flown at half-mast for an individual, Charlie Kirk, who believed that Black women, such as Joy Reid, Michelle Obama, Sheila Jackson Lee and Ketanji Brown Jackson, lacked the “brain processing power” to attain their positions on their own merits. “You have to go steal a white person’s spot,” he accused.
The Southern Poverty Law Center documented how TPUSA repeatedly portrayed immigrants, LGBTQ+ people and racial justice advocates as existential threats to “white Christian America,” warning followers that their families, religion and entire way of life were under attack.
These statements and much more were made by a man who to me was obviously a white supremacist and a close friend and supporter of the president and vice president. In return, they honored him by flying our American flag at half-mast.
Are we going to continue to deny that Trump and Vance are white supremacist Christian nationalists? Are you OK with this?
