Letter to the editor: Is the NFL getting too powerful?

Tribune-Review

The value of the NFL has doubled in the last five years, and as they say, “business is booming.” Everone just wants a piece of the pie.

Now that TV revenue is being collected all over the world, we need to put some away for a rainy day. The NFL, while it is doing well, should put a portion, maybe 10%, away for a future famine (CTE and players requiring medical attention who went bankrupt). We can call it the Wounded Player Project. We should look out for the veteran football players in need.

Is the NFL as a whole getting too greedy? Will we see a former player shoot up an NFL meeting down the road because he felt he was not taken care of?

It also would be a benefit if there were Christian ministries among all teams thanking God for giving them the talent to play in the NFL. How about the players and the NFL start tithing their first 10% for being blessed?

Years ago, Atlanta Falcons coach Jerry Glanville stated that NFL stood for “Not For Long.” Is the NFL getting too powerful? Are NFL leaders making an assumption that they will be around forever?

You know what they say about “assume” (you make an …). Here is a saying that has happened all throughout history: “absolute power corrupts absolutely.”
