Dedicated volunteer firefighters are harder to come by today. The New Stanton Volunteer Fire Department conducts a seven-week fish-fry fundraiser during Lent each year. This past Friday, numerous volunteers spent eight to 10 hours frying fish, making cole slaw and serving our loyal customers to raise much-needed funds for a new fire station. On Saturday morning, eight firefighters answered the alarm for assistance.

New Stanton residents are fortunate to have volunteers that will put in the time to not only raise money but respond to 500-plus alarms annually. Come out and support them at the last fish fry this Friday, Good Friday, and thank them for 75 years of service to the community.
