I was shocked to hear last month that the draft was coming to Pittsburgh. I wondered why the government chose our city to reinstate conscription and prepare our young men for yet another war that only profits the military industrial-complex and its cronies. Then I was told it was a draft for that silly little game of football.
It did draw far bigger crowds than any protest would have for an actual military draft that would send our sons off to die in war. And our city streets were somewhat clean for a week. No doubt they’ll shortly return to their perpetual state of litter.
If we don’t quickly resolve our conflict with Iran, things could escalate with repercussions that become unbearable. Gasoline used for your trip to Acrisure Stadium will skyrocket, taking the price of beer, hot dogs, parking and tickets along for the ride. So, you’ll be forced to use a “Buy Now, Pay Later” app. But it will be well worth it for three hours of bone-crunching pleasure.
It’s estimated that 62% of Americans have less than $1,000 in savings. But that shouldn’t stop them from contributing to the Steelers’ salary cap of over $300 million or the wonderful Rooney family.
