Letter to the editor: Turnpike executives don't deserve raises

Tribune-Review

This is totally unbelievable. Raises to Pennsylvania Turnpike executives who run the most expensive (by a lot) and poorly maintained toll road in captivity are insane (“Pa. Turnpike execs get 5-figure pay raises, including CEO’s $86K boost,” Aug. 7, TribLive).

Let’s see, if you drive from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia, you need to apply for a second mortgage. Then you also have to put up with poor road conditions.

Oh, and by the way, they have never figured out how to collect the hundreds of millions of dollars that go unpaid yearly. That money just might help a little to erase the massive losses. And supposedly tolls will continue to go up for many more years.

What, if anything, have they done to deserve a raise? I don’t see any reasons. I would guess that this is friends taking care of friends.

So let’s figure this out. People running legitimate companies would be fired for this incompetence. But not in Pennsylvania, the land of the free (but not on the turnpike) and the overtaxed. Raises for incompetence should be the new motto for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission. It’s time to hire competent people to run this massive wreck of an organization.

Let’s give these executives (and I use that term very loosely) a two-day E-ZPass to leave and drive to a job that they have to perform to receive a raise. They aren’t doing it here. I guess that would make them ex-executives. Hopefully!
