Letter to the editor: Why doesn’t government fund Mount Vernon?

I have a gripe with the government, too, but it’s not about politics.

I’ve been donating to George Washington’s Mount Vernon home for the past year, and every time I do, I am informed by the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association that they are the only ones that support and seek support for Mount Vernon’s upkeep.

Mount Vernon is not supported by the government in any way. Isn’t that a shame? All the money wasted on screwy programs, and Mount Vernon, the home of the first president of the United States, is not supported by any funds from the government. Shame on them. There must be a way to correct this.
