Pittsburgh residents starting Wednesday will be able to dispose of trash deemed hazardous, including TVs, computers, paint and batteries, for a fee at the Bureau of Environmental Services facility in the Strip District.
The city is contracting with Cochranton-based Environmental Coordination Services and Recycling to accept electronic and household hazardous waste on Wednesdays from 3 to 8 p.m. and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 3001 Railroad St.
Residents will be charged a disposal fee ranging from 25 cents to 40 cents per pound for most items and must schedule a drop-off appointment in advance. The company will accept only a credit card or check as payment.

City residents have been prohibited since 2010 from disposing of material deemed hazardous in their garbage. The city intends to expand the service in the fall to include home pickup options for an additional fee, according to the Mayor’s Office.
