Regarding the letter “Trump ridding the world of Iranian nuclear threat” (May 7, TribLive): First and foremost, this is a massive insult to all of my Muslim and Iranian friends and disregards terrorists like those from Jan. 6. Or any of the white supremacists. Bombings all the way back to Waco. School shootings.
People get branded as terrorists just because that label is used to justify actions taken against, e.g., protesters in Minneapolis. In these cases, this included people who were Jewish or gay, which makes the generalization even more disturbing.
Secondly, do you really think it’s only Democrats that do not agree with the war in Iran? The Republicans are not well aligned with this inexplicable war, either.
And where does NATO fit into this? Or does alliance disagreement automatically make action illegitimate?
What evidence is there that Iran was such an imminent threat — more than Ukraine, or any of the other crises we are already dealing with?
And now, what have been the repercussions globally for this ill-considered action? The president who won the election with the promise of no more forever wars has instigated one himself with a constantly changing explanation with no evidence, no end in sight, and the outcome is global instability. Economically and politically.
You think your gas is expensive now, just wait.
And how does it feel to be against nearly every sovereign nation of the world? Does that make you feel safer?
Think carefully in the next elections about whom you trust with decisions about war and peace.
