Letter to the editor: Legislators need to defend our democracy
I think the Republicans in Congress are cowards, loyalists who only want to do what one man wants them to do, not what their constituents want and need.
Ask yourself, is this what you voted for? In my opinion, the wanna-be king wants us to be poor, unhealthy and scared.
Cutting programs like SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) that put food on the tables of those who can’t afford to feed their families is not the way to keep your family healthy. And what happened to lowering the price of groceries?
Cutting Medicaid benefits will leave many without health care. Many nursing home patients won’t be able to stay if they don’t have Medicaid, and I’m sure hospitals will be next. How will your loved ones be cared for?
They seem intent on destroying the Affordable Care Act when they don’t have any plans to replace it; 45 million people could lose their health care. But the president will spend $45 million on a military parade to satisfy his own ego. Talk about waste, fraud and abuse! That money could be better spent on the American people.
It’s all about tax cuts for the rich. In my opinion, he doesn’t care about you; he just wanted your vote, as he said. Senators and representatives need to stand up and defend our democracy. Please don’t stay quiet, in fear of a bully. If you are afraid to speak out, then bow out.
