Penguins forward Dominik Kahun scratched vs. Sabres
Penguins forward Dominik Kahun was scratched for Saturday’s contest against the Buffalo Sabres at PPG Paints Arena.
Coach Mike Sullivan labeled Kahun as a “game-time decision” prior to the game. Kahun did participate in warmups.
During the late stages of Thursday’s 4-0 road loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs, Kahun left the contest after being struck on the left leg by a shot.
In 50 games this season, Kahun has 27 points (10 goals, 17 assists).
He was replaced in the lineup by rookie forward Anthony Angello.
Notes:
• Goaltender Tristan Jarry started for the Penguins. In 29 games this season, Jarry has a 20-8-1 record along with a 2.13 goals against average, a .931 save percentage and three shutouts.
Another lineup change saw reserve defenseman Zach Trotman return to the lineup in place of Juuso Riikola. Recalled from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Wednesday, Trotman is appearing in his first NHL game since Dec. 4.
The precise reason for Riikola’s scratch is not known but it could be a coach’s decision. During Thursday’s contest, he was out of place on a sequence which led to a breakaway goal for Maple Leafs forward Kasperi Kapanen during the second period.
• Injured defensemen Brian Dumoulin (left ankle), John Marino (face) and forward Nick Bjugstad (core muscle) will accompany the team for its upcoming four-game road trip through Washington as well as California, according to Sullivan. All three players have been skating as of late. They are currently on injured reserve.
• The Sabres started goaltender Carter Hutton. In 26 games this season, he has an 11-10-4 record along with a 3.24 goals against average, an .894 save percentage and two shutouts.
